Few days ago, the so-called Gang of Eight senators revealed a blueprint for an immigration reform bill. Details in the actual legislation will matter a great deal but these are initial impressions based on the blueprint. The good and the bad.

Good:

- Earned legalization for non-criminal unauthorized immigrants. After paying fines, back taxes, undergoing a criminal background check, and other firm penalties, unauthorized immigrants will be able to stay in the United States and eventually earn a green card. This will increase their wages over several years much faster than if they remained unauthorized.

El trabajo creativo de siete diseñadores mexicanos es el centro de atención de una exhibición gratis en el Consulado General de México en San Francisco. La recepción de apertura se llevará a cabo el 7 de febrero marcando el inicio de apertura de la exhibición al público del 8 de febrero al 3 de marzo.

Los diferentes trabajos y estilos comparten en común un mismo concepto – el sabor picante de una identidad representada por la figura del chile. La presentación es una oportunidad única para ser testigos del talento de una nueva generación de diseñadores mexicanos, tales como:

The creative work of seven Mexican designers is the focus of a free gallery show at the Consulate General of Mexico in San Francisco. An opening Night reception on Thursday, February 7th will launch the exhibition’s public viewing from February 8 to March 3.

Different works and styles share a common concept - the spicy flavor of an identity represented by the figure of el chile. The show is a unique opportunity to experience the talent of a new generation of Mexican designers, such as:

La Ciudad de Oakland ha encontrado que ha mantenido más de $316,000 por concepto de multas de estacionamiento que los infractores pagaron de más durante el año fiscal 2010-2011. Una auditoría llevada a cabo por la Auditora de la Ciudad de Oakland, Courtney Ruby, encontró que un nuevo sistema de administración de multas creó algunas mejorías pero falló en resolver ciertos problemas en los controles internos. Este año es el 20 aniversario del Reto de los Caminos (Trails Challenge), el Distrito de Parques Regionales del Este de la Bahía alienta a la gente a salir y explorar los parques cercanos a sus hogares en los condados de Alameda y Contra Costa.

El año pasado más de 10,000 personas participaron. La idea es completar cinco de los caminos destacados dentro del programa con fecha límite el 1 de diciembre, ya sea a pie, en bicicleta o a caballo, a fin de recibir un broche conmemorativo.

Latino restaurants fuel Oakland’s food reputation ----

In recent years, Oakland has truly become a food destination that has earned attention and respect in the Bay Area and nationally. This is not tourism or business marketing hype - many unique and innovative restaurants are impressing food lovers and experts who choose to explore new eateries and new tastes.

A showcase of Oakland's culinary revolution is Oakland Restaurant Week, which runs from January 18-27. Presented by Visit Oakland, the ten-day dining event provides visitors and locals with an opportunity to taste some of Oakland's best food, with special meals and pricing from the city's top restaurants. Fixed price menus at $20, $30 and $40 will be offered for lunch and dinner at more than forty restaurants, including several that feature Mexican and Latin American dishes.
