Hispanos han sido perjudicados más que ayudados por la nueva ley del cuidado de la salud

De acuerdo a la Oficina del Censo, nosotros somos el grupo demográfico menos probable en buscar atención médica. Un 42 por ciento de los hispanos no visitan a los doctores al menos una vez al año.

El fallido lanzamiento del sitio web en español del cuidado de salud de la Casa Blanca, CuidadoDeSalud.gov, es ya el hazmerreír. Tanto como su versión en inglés, el sitio está lleno de problemas técnicos, traducciones equivocadas y enlaces a páginas y formularios únicamente en inglés.

Pero la burla es para los latinos como yo.

2013 lo fue. Nunca antes en la historia de la humanidad tantas personas habían vivido vidas tan largas ni tan cómodas.

La pobreza, la violencia, el trabajo y la mortalidad infantil, todos han caído alrededor del mundo a niveles sin precedente histórico. Entre 1990 y 2010 la proporción de la población mundial que vivía con menos de $1,25 (cifra ajustada para la paridad del poder adquisitivo) al día cayó de 43,1% a 20,6% o, visto de otra forma, 693 millones de personas abandonaron la pobreza extrema. El promedio mundial de expectativa de vida al momento de nacer ha pasado de 52 años en 1960 a 69 años en 2010.
