El Museo USS Hornet de Alameda es un tesoro histórico que ha evolucionado hasta llegar a ser un lugar de aprendizaje práctico donde los estudiantes aprenden sobre historia, ciencia, tecnología y matemáticas. Entre los programas educativos que se ofrecen en el veterano porta-aviones de guerra se encuentra el programa STEM (Ciencia, Tecnología, Ingeniería, Matemáticas), que brinda a las escuelas locales la oportunidad no sólo de vivir de primera mano una experiencia histórica, sino también de aprender cómo la ciencia, las matemáticas y la tecnología juegan un papel importante en las actividades cotidianas a bordo de un enorme navío.

The USS Hornet Museum in Alameda is a historical treasure that has evolved into a hands-on learning place where students learn about history, science, technology and math. Among the educational programs offered at the war veteran aircraft carrier is STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), which provides the opportunity for local schools to not only experience history firsthand, but also learn how science, math and technology all play a vital role in the day-to-day activities aboard the massive ship.

Synopsis: Since 1995, the federal government has spent nearly $40 billion and provided trillions of dollars worth of insurance guarantees to lenders to promote homeownership, especially among communities of color. The infusion of money boosted homeownership rates slightly over the decades, but the ongoing national foreclosure crisis is wiping out all of those gains.

Sinopsis: Desde 1995 el gobierno federal ha gastado cerca de $40 mil millones de dólares y facilitado trillones de dólares en valor en garantías de seguros a los prestamistas, a fin de promover que la gente sea dueña de su propia casa, especialmente en las comunidades de color. A través de las décadas, la inyección de dinero incrementó  ligeramente los índices del número de dueños de casa, pero la crisis de embargos a nivel nacional está mermando todo lo anteriormente ganado.

Diverse music and food to draw crowd to Art & Soul festival

One of the Bay Area’s largest and most popular festivals is again set to draw thousands of people to downtown Oakland. Scheduled for August 20 & 21, the 11th Annual Art & Soul Festival will feature music, art and food reflecting the rich cultural diversity of the Oakland area.

Last year more than 60,000 people attended the event, which this year will feature more than 150 artisans and the largest Family Fun Zone of any festival in the Bay Area.

Salsa, rock, rock en español, cumbia, and jazz musicians will entertain the crowds. Several Latino musicians are among the most anticipated performers at the festival.
