Construction on a four-story, 83,000-square-foot building will start in the next few weeks in the Creekside Plaza Office Park. The building is the third in the Creekside complex, which is across the street from the San Leandro BART station and close to interstates 880 and 580. Proximity to transportation was a major factor for tenant Regional Center of the East Bay. The government agency, which serves people with disabilities, is currently located near

the Oakland Airport. It will move 600 employees into the new building when contractor Lusardi Construction of Pleasanton completes construction next year. The Regional Center plans to eventually fill the whole building.

Creekside is a Class-A business park located on 7.5 acres with two fully leased buildings: a 100,000-square-foot and 52,000-square-foot building. When completed the business park will have a total gross leasable area of 204,682 square feet.

Borel Private Bank and Trust in San Mateo is providing a $22 million loan for the project. Developer Innisfree Cos. invested about $8.5 million.

The Creekside complex is the only Class A office construction in San Leandro and one of few projects in the East Bay that has managed to secure both financing and an anchor tenant.

“This project has been a huge success,” said Cynthia Battenberg, San Leandro’s business development manager. “It provides an opportunity for people to take public transit to work, and it’s near downtown, where they have access to shops and restaurants.”
