Where to celebrate five days of Cinco!

The Bay Area’s largest Cinco de Mayo festival, held in Oakland, has been cancelled for this year though there are many other options for food, drink and entertainment. With Cinco falling on a Tuesday, there will be a lot happening between the 1st and 5th. Here is your guide for Cinco de Mayo celebrations in the East Bay.

Hayward

Saturday, May 2 is the city’s annual Cinco de Mayo street festival at City Hall Plaza in downtown Hayward, 10:00AM to 7:00PM. Entertainment includes singer Berta Olivia, Ballet Folklorico, Mariachi Mexicanisimo, Grupo Tlalpalli performing Aztec dance, and others. Mexican food, piñatas and juegos for the children. La Alianza de Hayward organizes this event for cultural promotion and the education of our youth.

Celia’s Restaurant is celebrating on Tuesday May 5th with live mariachi from 5:00PM to 8:00PM, special food and drinks prices. Lots of free parking. Celia’s is located at 25010 Hesperian Blvd., call for information at 510-782-2235.

Las Canastas Restaurant: Tuesday, May 5 features free appetizers with order of beer. 48 Blossom Way, inf. 510-582-5383.

Acapulco Bar and Grill: Saturday, May 2 is Cinco de Mayo dance party with live music by the Latin Rhythm Boys. 1950 Hesperian Blvd. 510-785-8200.

Oakland

Several restaurants and retail stores will be having parties or food specials.

El Huarache Azteca restaurant will celebrate with salsa and cumbia music on Sunday, May 3rd from 11am. La Placita, located on 2375 Fruitvale Ave., will have a family event on Sunday, May 3rd. Come to enjoy Bolivian and Aztec dancers, food from Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Perú and Chile, raffles, children and teen zones, music.

Alameda
