The City of Oakland and the Golden State Warriors hosted a parade and rally on Thursday, June 15 to celebrate the 2017 NBA Champions. Initial estimates indicate one million fans from around the Bay Area attended the festivities.

The parade proceeded north up Broadway before turning right on Grand Avenue, then right on Harrison, left on to 19th Street, then right onto Oak Street before ending outside the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center and along Lake Merritt Boulevard for the rally.

The rally began shortly before 1 p.m., where Mayor Schaaf and fellow elected officials from around the region joined Golden State Warriors owners, leadership, and players on the rally stage. After making brief remarks, the Mayor presented Warriors owners Peter Gruber and Joe Lacob with the “Key to the City of Oakland.”

“Oakland has been rallying around the Warriors for decades and we are so excited to host this celebration for the entire Bay Area for the second time in three years,” said Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf. “This team makes our city proud on and off the court, and as a lifelong Warriors fan, I’m proud to welcome the Larry O'Brien trophy back to Oakland.”

On Monday night, before an excited crowd at Oracle Arena, the Warriors surged to their second championship in three years with a 129-120 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5 of the NBA finals.
