Hayward Farmers Market moves to City Hall Plaza on May 9th

After nearly 20 years on Main Street, the Hayward Farmers Market will be moving to the City Hall Plaza on Saturday, May 9th. Hayward city officials and Marin Farmers Markets, the non-profit that facilitates the market , agreed to move the market as part of the redevelopment  of downtown Hayward.

Both believe that the market will bring vibrant energy to the Plaza.

The Hayward Farmers Markets will be celebrating its new home by giving 50 free tote bags with Hayward’s new market logo, tastings of seasonal fruits, and a delicious Mother’s Day/Market Warming Cake.
 
With more than 60 farmers, specialty food providers, and artisans the Hayward Farmers Market is a celebrated gathering place for the Hayward community every Saturday between 9 am and 1 pm. City Hall Plaza will offer added convenience for shoppers thanks to its proximity to the Hayward BART station, additional parking, and to the new in-fill residential units that are enlivening downtown Hayward, "The Heart of the Bay." The market will continue to take place year-round on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm at its new location.

The market is truly a family affair, an element that market manager Brad Burger celebrates. “Many of the farmers and food purveyors are represented by multiple generations, which sets the tone for a true family event. City Hall Plaza will be a better environment for families. The Plaza is beautiful and it feels like the new epicenter of the Hayward community.  It makes sense that the Hayward Farmers Market will call it home.”

Burger notes: “The market has been successful on Main - we’ve enjoyed our time there, but I think all our vendors are looking forward to something fresh and new. Change is good. The market has potential to grow and better serve the needs of the Hayward community and the farmers.”
