air pollution and climate change community meetings San Leandro

Non-profit organization San Leandro 2050 invites people living in certain neighborhoods in San Leandro to attend one of several online “Open House” community meetings to share their opinion about local air pollution and climate concerns, impacts on health and quality of life, as well as possible solutions. The one-hour sessions include a presentation, several opinion polls, and an optional open discussion. Input will be collected anonymously and evaluated as trends across all Open House events. Each qualifying participant will receive $25 for attending one full session on their computer or phone.

Qualifying neighborhoods: Davis East, Davis West, Downtown, Floresta Gardens, Mulford Gardens, Halcyon-Foothill, Washington Manor, Bonaire.

According to the California Air Resources Board, the San Leandro neighborhoods of Davis East, Davis West, Floresta Gardens, and Bonaire see some of the highest rates of diesel emissions, traffic density, and contaminated sites in California. Other environmental issues found in local neighborhoods are leaking underground tanks, solid waste and hazardous waste.

Upcoming Open House sessions:

Tuesday, April 27 at 6:00 p.m. (in English)
Thursday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m. (in English)
Tuesday, May 11 at 6:00 p.m. (in Spanish) Registrate aqui

Funded through a grant by the California Air Resources Board, the online meetings serve to gather community input that will help inform San Leandro’s Climate Action Plan and other initiatives aimed at fighting air pollution and climate change, while improving quality of life for all residents. The neighborhoods listed above carry a disproportionate burden in regard to air pollution and health impacts compared to other parts of San Leandro. At the same time, the voices of residents from those neighborhoods are often missing from discussions about city priorities. That’s why San Leandro 2050 is inviting residents from these neighborhoods specifically to the Open House meetings.
